Searcy’s sanitation rate is among the highest compared to other towns in and around County | New

Searcy’s monthly sanitation charges appear to be among the highest compared to other towns in and around White County.

The everyday citizen checked with other municipalities about their rates after Searcy Mayor Kyle Osborne said about remediation needs in the city’s plan to make the 1% sales and use tax permanent that the city’s rate is “below average”.

“We pride ourselves on providing quality sanitation services at below average cost to our citizens,” Osborne said in an article published Tuesday.

An attempt to reach Osborne to comment on the comparison failed.

The city’s monthly charge for garbage pickup is $ 18 plus tax, according to city hall, and Lillie Cook, deputy mayor, said there was no additional charge for garbage pickup. leaves and branches. The city also provides recycling services and a trash can as part of the cost. In White County, Beebe, Bradford, Higginson, Judsonia, Kensett and Pangburn charge a lower rate, while Bald Knob charges more when additional services are factored in.

Searcy changed its rates in early 2020, with city council voting the previous November to add $ 2 to the garbage service charge. This was the first increase since 2013. (The commercial rate went from $ 30 to $ 35.)

The reason given for the rate increase was that the development districts the city uses to dispose of the city’s waste, the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District and the White River Planning and Development District, each increased their rate by $ 1. $ per ton.

Bald Knob Mayor Barth Grayson said his town’s monthly charge for garbage collection was $ 13.12. However, he said there is a $ 5 solid waste levy that residents pay as well. If, for example, a landlord were to clean up a place after a tenant left, Grayson said there would be a charge of “about $ 50 extra” to pick up all of their belongings left outside the residence.

Beebe Mayor Mike Robertson said garbage collection costs $ 14 a month plus tax and includes recycling and picking up leaves and branches. The city contracts its remediation services with Green Environmental Services of Arkansas, which provides a trash can as part of the services.

Higginson contracts garbage pickup through Heavenly Trash and a representative, Crystal Thompson, said if Higginson customers use a trash can they have purchased themselves, the fee is $ 14 plus tax. If the customer requires a bin from Heavenly Trash, there will be a charge of $ 3 or $ 5 per month depending on the size of the bin. If a customer had a very large amount of garbage, it would be handled using a “dumpster” at $ 325 for two days or $ 400 for seven days of use.

Kensett’s water and sewer clerk Angel Wells said the monthly charge for garbage pickup was $ 15 plus $ 1.47 for taxes. “On my garbage collectors alone, after tax it comes down to $ 16.47, and that’s all we charge per month and that covers sheets, sticks,” Wells said. “We do a miscellaneous pickup every third Monday and pick up just about anything. “

Within the city limits of Judsonia the residential waste rate is $ 14 and outside the city limits it is $ 16. The charges can be found on the monthly water bill.

Pangburn Mayor Michael Marsh said residents pay $ 13.18 for monthly garbage pickup and there are no additional charges for leaves and branches.

Bradford reportedly charged $ 15 for garbage pickup, but would not pick up leaves and branches.

Rose Bud does not offer a garbage collection service, so residents choose for themselves which service they wish to use. Some residents use Waste Management in Heber Springs, others use BC Sanitation in Searcy or Heavenly Trash.

Among neighboring towns, Cabot, Conway, and Heber Springs each charge over $ 17 for sanitation services.

Cabot residents pay $ 17.95 per month for garbage pickup, recycling, and yard waste. Residents of Conway pay $ 17 plus $ 1.56 in tax. The sanitation website has information on bulk pickups.

In Heber Springs, residents pay $ 17.50 for monthly garbage pickup. Sheets and limbs are also included, but if an excessive amount needs to be picked up, additional charges apply.

Other cities verified include Jacksonville, which has a monthly rate of $ 15.50 for residential garbage pickup, and Batesville, whose residents pay $ 14.29 plus tax per month.

Vilonia does not offer city service, so residents have to decide which business to use. Some of the services residents use include TBF Sanitation, which charges $ 23 per month, and Waste Management, which charges $ 47 per month.

The price information was mainly provided by the city sanitation services and town halls.
