Centro Restructures Fares, Increases Bus Service – Oswego County Today

SYRACUSE, NY – On Monday, March 7, 2022, Centro will introduce new fares that will reduce transit costs for most Centro bus riders; continue to restore service on various bus routes in Onondaga County; and implement minor service changes for select routes in Auburn, Fulton, Oswego, Rome and Utica.

The Centro Board of Directors has unanimously approved new fares that will set one-way fares for all City of Centro bus services at $1.00 per trip for adult users and 50 cents per journey for people eligible for half-fare, including people over 65, people with disabilities and children 6 to 9 years old.

“We are delighted to offer these new rates to our customers,” said Centro General Manager Brian Schultz. “We believe these fares will allow existing customers to use our transit services more often and attract new users to the Centro bus system. It also allows us to standardize the pricing of transit bus services in each of the communities we serve. »

The simplified fare system will also allow customers to purchase bus passes directly from the fare box when boarding the bus.

The fare changes represent a reduction in the adult fare of $2.00 each way in Syracuse and Onondaga County, and $1.50 in Utica. The new fare structure also establishes uniform pricing for all Centro passes. Bus fares in Oswego, Fulton, Mexico City and Auburn are currently set at $1.00. The new city bus fares and pass prices are as follows:

Cash fare Adult $1.00

Cash rate Seniors 65 and over

Persons with disabilities, children 6 to 9 years old $0.50

Children under 6 FREE

Interrupted transfers

Full price day pass $4.00

Half-fare day pass $2.00

MAXPass full weekly rate $12.00

MAXPass Weekly Half Fare $6.00

Full price 10 ride pass $10.00

Half-price 10-ride pass $5.00

As part of the rate restructuring, Centro also reduced the cost of its long-haul commuter services linking Syracuse with Oswego/Fulton and Auburn. These prices are as follows:

Adult cash fare $3.00

Cash rate Seniors 65 and over

Persons with disabilities, children 6 to 9 years old $1.50

Children under 6 FREE

Interrupted transfers

Full day pass $7.00

Half-fare day pass $3.50

Full MAXPass weekly rate $30.00

Half Fare Weekly MAXPass $15.00

Full fare 10-ride pass $30.00

Half-price 10-ride pass $15.00

The service improvements, which are a direct result of an increase in Centro’s workforce, will increase morning, noon and peak hour service on a number of Centro routes.

Service changes include:

  • increased frequency on James St, Liverpool, Court St, Fayetteville-Manlius, Solvay, Mattydale, North Syracuse and Henry Clay Blvd bus routes
  • resumption of bus service to Bennett Manor, Iroquois Nursing Home, Drumlins, Northeast Medical Center and Ollie’s Plaza (Rome)
  • deprogramming of the midday service on the Aub38 and Ful 4/5 lines
  • rescheduling of morning, midday and evening rush hour trips on the Osw46 route
  • route changes to routes Ut12, Ut28 and Ut29

“Although our workforce is not at full capacity, it has increased. We have a class of new bus operators coming into service later this month which will allow us to restore service that we unfortunately had to interrupt during our labor shortage crisis. As we continue to add bus operators, we are confident that we can restore our bus service to the level our customers need and depend on,” said Vice President of Communications and Business Planning Steve Koegel.

Service levels will continue to be restored as additional manpower becomes available, and customers are encouraged to submit service requests for review over the coming months.

Schedule information will be updated and made available on Centro’s website (www.centro.org) over the next week, or customers can contact Centro’s call center at (315) 442- 3400 for more information.
