BKD Launches National Accounting Advisory Services

Springfield, April 07, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — BKD CPAs & Advisors has launched a new suite of services, Accounting Advisory Services, designed to provide advice to clients on a wide range of financial transactions and regulatory matters. The company tapped Thomas J. Watson, general manager in Chicago, to lead the new service.

Accounting advisory services provide clients with a dedicated team that can help them through technical accounting changes and complex financial transaction and reporting issues. This would include adoption and implementation of new accounting regulations, accounting issues related to mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, SEC reporting, IPO preparation and SPAC reporting.

“BKD’s trusted advisors have a long history of consulting on these types of issues at the request of our clients,” said Jerry Henderson, regional managing partner of National Advisory Services. “As our clients see their businesses become increasingly complex, a dedicated accounting advisory practice is the best approach to meet this need and grow with our clients as the pace of change continues to accelerate.”

Recent examples of the value of these services include assisting clients in implementing new lease accounting standards, participating in and managing the program of client IPO processes, and drafting initial financial statements following the SPAC transactions. The accounting advisory services practice complements other BKD service offerings such as private equity, transaction services, global tax integration and enterprise risk services, among others.

Watson (not to be confused with BKD CEO Tom Watson) was brought in in early 2022 to lead the new effort. Prior to BKD, Watson was a partner at two major international accounting firms and managing director at two international consulting firms. Throughout his more than 30-year career, Watson has helped clients meet the challenges of a changing business environment in a variety of industries, including consumer products, retail, automotive , healthcare and industrial products. His clients include Fortune 500 companies, private organizations and private equity investments.

“I am honored to join BKD and lead the AAS practice,” Watson said. “I look forward to helping develop and deliver this new set of solutions to our customers, and to working with our teams across the country.

“Tom is a proven practice builder,” Henderson said. “We are delighted that he is leading this important new initiative for BKD. In addition to his subject matter expertise, Tom’s extensive experience will be a real benefit to clients seeking assistance in these areas.

Watson holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Illinois CPA Society.
